Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English literature. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named the chief reporter for Congress. Mitchell was promoted to the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. She was a member of a panel for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. She covered a wide range of notable stories, including weapons control, the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. She also was frequently together with the president Reagan for summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
